This isn't about a modification but a repair. A repair on a Les Paul neck where the head stock meets the neck known as the volute. This is the Achilles Heel of Les Pauls and through the years Gibson has attempted to address the issue by building up the volute or changing the head stock angle. I've seen a lot of Les Pauls on Ebay and in real life with either busted necks or repaired necks. This particular example is not a clean break or even a crack just a hairline fracture. I decided to go ahead and stabilize the neck by injecting an adhesive that will hopefully not effect tone. The photos on top are of my 70's Les Paul Gold Top with a neck thats been stripped, thinned and finished in satin.
